Greek judges rule that fifth of five students should not be tried in Italy

A council of appeals court judges ruled on Monday that the fifth of five Greek students wanted in Italy in connection to alleged rioting in the neighboring country should not be extradited to Italy.

The 19-year-old, along with the other four suspects, had been wanted for causing damage during clashes between protesters and police in Milan last year at the sidelines of the Expo2015.

However, the judges decided – as for the other four – that he should not be extradited to Italy. The suspects’ lawyers argued that the case file compiled by Italian authorities lacked the necessary evidence.

The charges filed against the five men in Italy carry jail sentences of between eight and 15 years.
