New Democracy pulls ahead of SYRIZA, opinion poll shows

Greece's conservative New Democracy party has taken a lead among voters over leftist SYRIZA, a new opinion poll has showed.

The survey, which was carried out by Pulse for Action24 website, showed that SYRIZA would get 24 percent of the vote while New Democracy would take 28 percent.

Meanwhile, the poll showed the Greek Communist Party (KKE) and Golden Dawn at 5.5 percent, PASOK at 4.5 percent, and the pro-drachma Popular Unity party at 3 percent.

According to the survey, To Potami, Independent Greeks and the Union of Centrists would not win enough support to make it into Parliament.

On the issue of who would be the most suitable political leader for the position of prime minister, new opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was voted by 27 percent of those participating in the survey, followed by SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras with 25 percent.
