Cabbies to join general strike next week
Taxi drivers are to walk off the job next Thursday, joining thousands of workers in a general strike to protest the government’s proposals for pension reform.
The cabbies are pressing the authorities to revise their proposals to ensure that the plan is “viable in the long term” and “ensures social cohesion and growth,” according to a statement issued Wednesday by the nationwide union representing their sector.
The statement underlined their demands for a tax-free ceiling on income of up to 10,000 euros and the freezing of their debts to the fund representing the self-employed (OAEE).
