OASTH to be probed over spending

The Transport Ministry has decided to launch an investigation into the management of the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH).

A team of inspectors made up of Transport Ministry employees will examine how the company was run between 2010 and 2014.

Between 2007 and 2013, OASTH received 910 million euros in state subsidies, compared to 980 million for the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), which serves far more commuters and a larger area.

During this time, for example, OASTH received 140 million euros in subsidies for its buses and trolley buses compared to 143 million for OASA’s, even though they covered only a third of the distance of those in Athens.
