The cost of the blockades

Greek farmers – protesting against a pensions overhaul which will bring in tax hikes and increase their social security contributions since last month – must realize that their ongoing blockades are taking a huge toll on the national economy as well as society.

The country is being tested by unprecedented challenges and Greek businesses are waging a war of survival. Blockades along the country’s highways are paralyzing the real economy, making the situation even more difficult for Greece.

The farmers’ actions are undermining the legitimacy of their cause. At the same time, they are generating the indignation of citizens who are not to blame for their conundrum.
