Saharan dust spoils the view in Athens

Southerly winds blew dense clouds of Saharan dust over Athens on Wednesday and many other parts of Greece.

People with breathing problems were advised to stay indoors on Wednesday due to the dust, which was expected to persist for a few days.

Crete was also affected by the dustclouds but gale-force winds also caused problems on the island.

A 64-year-old man died when a tree fell on his car in Hania, while flights to and from Iraklio airport were cancelled.
