Former Samaras adviser denies ownership of company on Lagarde list
Stavros Papastavrou, who served as an adviser to former prime minister Antonis Samaras, on Tuesday said reports linking him to the ownership of a company listed on the Lagarde list were “twisting the truth.”
Papastavrou, a lawyer, paid a 3.5-million-euro fine in February to avoid a criminal investigation into the deposit in question, but he also said that he would appeal the penalty as the account’s beneficiary was Greek-Israeli businessman Sabby Mionis, a client of Papastavrou’s.
However, reports citing court documents relating to the Virgin Islands-registered company that held the account indicated that Papastavrou may have been the owner.
He argued, though, that there had been a selective use of documents and that he is clearly listed as a trustee rather than actual owner.
