Obvious inadequacy

The time has come for the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks government to face the fact that sweet talk and naive intentions do not suffice when it comes to actually solving problems.

The situation has spiraled out of control at the Idomeni camp on the country’s northern border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, while conditions at refugee and migrant screening and hosting centers are abysmal and desperate people are being exploited by opportunists.

The government can no longer use the excuse of being taken by surprise. Nor can it go on accusing the “nasty foreigners,” who are usually blamed for whatever is plaguing the country.

On the contrary, what is becoming increasingly evident is the administration’s inadequacy. If this persists, it could lead to an explosive situation.

The refugee and migrant issue is on the verge of becoming a fuse for unexpected and dangerous developments.
