Choreographer Papaioannou and team nominated for Daytime Emmy awards for Baku games

Acclaimed Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou and a close team of collaborators have been nominated for six Emmy awards in the Daytime category for “Origins”, the opening ceremony of 1st 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. The games took  place in June, 2015.

Papaioannou, who acted as artistic director of the Baku opening ceremony, also conceived and directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

The nominations include outstanding directing (Papaioannou and Greg Breakell and associate directors Tina Papanikolaou and Louise Story); Oustanding music direction and composition (Theodor and Vangelino Currentzis); Costume design (Paula Ryan, Angelos Mentis and Yashi Tabassomi); Lighting direction (lighting designers Robert Dickinson, Travis Hagenbuch and lighting directors Charles Dabezies and Ted Wells); Art direction (Papaioannou and Thanassis Demitris as production designers), art direction (Michael Curry) and scenic designer (Nicholas Mahon).

The awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on May 1.
