Two babies die from meningitis in Athens

Two Roma babies from the western Athens suburb of Zefyri have died from meningitis, while a third was being treated for the same illness on Friday, the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention, KEELPNO, announced.

According to KEELPNO, the infants were diagnosed with bacterial meningitis earlier in the week and were treated at the Aghia Sophia and Aglaiou Kyriakou Pedon Hospitals in Athens.

A KEELPNO team visited the families of the infants to administer preventive medication in an effort to avoid contagion, the organization said.
