Refugees, migrants leave Chios camp

A group of around 500 refugees and migrants reportedly left a detention center on the island of Chios and headed to the island’s port on Friday.

According to reports, the refugees and migrants cut a hole in the wire fence and exited the detention center in small groups. On Thursday evening six people were injured in the camp in clashes between Syrians and Afghans.

Speaking to Kathimerini on Friday, Chios Mayor Manolis Vournous noted that local authorities have asked the government for certain measures that could defuse tensions, such as the installation of a canteen on the dentention center's premises.
