Greek police crack robbery gang ‘behind at least two murders’

The Greek Police on Friday said it has netted a gang of thieves who are believed to be responsible for at least two murders.

A large-scale operation in the Attica region has led so far to the arrest of seven suspects – six Albanian nationals aged between 28 and 43, and one Greek, also 43 – police said.

A 27-year-old Albanian man who is currently in prison for robbery is also believed to be a member of the gang.

The investigation has revealed evidence suggesting the gang may have been behind the killing of a 53-year-old man in Elefsina, southwest of Athens, in March 2015, and a 75-year-old woman in Aspropyrgos in the same area, in October.

Both victims are believed to have been killed during the course of a robbery at their homes.
