‘Voice’ of Paris terrorist raids traversed Greece last year
A French jihadist whose voice was heard in an audio recording in which ISIS referenced last November’s terrorist attacks in Paris passed through Greece on his way to Syria early last year, sources told Kathimerini.
Fabien Clain, known to French intelligence authorities since 2001, was released from prison in his home country in 2014. Early last year, he was spotted driving through northern Greece with his family. French police alerted their Greek counterparts to his presence and his movements were monitored while he was in the country.
Clain and his family drove from the port of Igoumenitsa in northwestern Greece to the border crossing with Turkey in the northeast of the country. They stopped overnight at both Thessaloniki and Kavala.
Sources said Greek officers did not arrest him as there was no international warrant in his name and no evidence for him to be charged with any offenses.
It is believed that Clain traveled on to Syria, from where he is suspected to having played a part in coordinating the Paris and Brussels terrorist attacks.
