Patra police confiscate more than 2,500 firecrackers after home raid

A 25-year-old man faced a prosecutor in Mesolongi Tuesday after a police raid on his home in Aitoliko, western Greece, turned up more than 2,500 firecrackers.

Patra security police officers seized the firecrackers from his home during a search that also yielded a can of pepper spray and a truncheon.

As it is a Greek tradition to set off fireworks or firecrackers to celebrate Christ’s resurrection at midnight on Easter Saturday, the weeks leading to Easter usually see a brisk illicit trade in homemade fireworks.
