KEELPNO managers charged with breach of faith over media campaigns
Chief corruption prosecutor Eleni Raikou on Tuesday brought criminal charges of breach of faith against managers who served between 2011 and 2013 at the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) in connection with the alleged mismanagement of more than 1 million euros in state funding that was spent on media campaigns.
According to the prosecutor’s investigation, the former managers are alleged to have spent millions of euros on certain public information campaigns that could have been aired for free and on others for diseases including cancer and flu that do not fall within KEELPNO’s remit.
The charges relate to contracts worth 1.2 million euros that were granted to several advertising companies by KEELPNO between 2011 and 2013.
KEELPNO claims to be the competent authority for public awareness on chronic diseases including cancer and notes that very few campaigns air for free.
