A threat to transparency
When co-ruling parties SYRIZA and Independent Greeks were in the opposition, they had made a big hoopla over the governments of the time surprising lawmakers with sudden or irrelevant amendments to laws or legislative acts for which they had been given no time to prepare.
They harped on about the matter to such a degree that they elevated it to a national issue.
Today, the coalition not only does the exact same thing but it does so in such a prolific manner that the legislation process has become almost nontransparent.
Legal amendments are introduced and then withdrawn without any explanation, while exceptions have become the rule, something which is shaping a new culture of governance.
The members of Parliament, irrespective of which party they may belong to, should take a stand and do something. They should react to such phenomena that grind away at the foundations of democracy in this country.
