Probe into Greeks included in Panama Papers

Financial prosecutors are to send requests to judicial authorities in Panama, seeking the full details of Greek shareholders in or managers of offshore companies included in the so-called Panama Papers, a leaked list of confidential documents compiled by the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

Led by chief financial prosecutor Panayiotis Athanasiou, a Greek team of investigators tasked with probing tax evasion and money laundering are shifting their attention to Greeks named in the Panama Papers.

According to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the names include Stavros Papastavrou, former adviser to Antonis Samaras, businessmen Spyros Metaxas, Constantinos Lanaras and Prodromos Petridis, as well as Alexandros Patounis.
