Polls puts ND far ahead of SYRIZA

A new opinion poll has put conservative New Democracy 5.5 percentage points ahead of ruling SYRIZA.

The poll, carried out by the firm Pulse for Action 24 television channel, found that 27.5 percent of respondents would vote for ND if general elections were to be held now with 22 percent opting for SYRIZA.

Neofascist Golden Dawn, the Communist Party and PASOK would garner 6 percent of the vote each with Union of Centrists and Popular Unity scraping 2.5 percent each, below the 3 percent threshold for entering Parliament. Potami and Independent Greeks would win just 2 percent each, according to the poll.

Asked who would make a better prime minister, 30 percent backed ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis with 23 percent supporting current premier Alexis Tsipras. A total of 42 percent said they would back neither of the two.
