Mitsotakis bars ND’s youth wing from congress after vote complaints

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Monday that he would not accept delegates from the party’s youth wing, ONNED, at the upcoming conservative congress due to complaints about the procedure to elect them.

ONNED held a vote over the weekend to elect representatives to sit on New Democracy political committee, the youth wing’s own central committee and delegates for the party congress, which is due to be held this weekend.

However, there were numerous complaints about the voting procedure, with allegations that many members were barred from casting their ballots and that results were fabricated.

This led to Mitsotakis saying he would not recognise the results. He asked for an investigation into what happened and indicated that he would begin a process to rebuild ONNED.
