Inspectors find violations at southern Athens lake

TAGS: Environment

Environmental inspectors who surveyed the area around Lake Vouliagmeni, southeast of Athens, have found a range of violations, Kathimerini has learned.

The inspectors visited the area, popular for its thermal waters, after complaints by a local residents’ group. They found that the buildings around the lake cover a total of 865 square meters when the maximum limit is 150. Also, 60 parking spaces have been created as opposed to the 15 permitted.

Some of the businesses, such as snack bars, are only allowed to open when the thermal spa is in operation but were found to be open despite the health center being closed.

The inspectors called on local authorities to take action.

The land around the lake is owned by the Church of Greece.
