Watchdog upholds complaints over Jumbo advert

TAGS: Business, Society

Greece’s advertising watchdog has ruled that an Easter commercial by children’s store Jumbo is sexist and encourages violence against women.

The Advertising Self-Regulation Council (SEE) upheld a complaint from the General Secretariat for Equality regarding the advertisement and asked for it to be changed or withdrawn within two days.

The seasonal commercial features popular Greek singer Angela Dimitriou, who at the end of the spot challenges a man to tap died-red eggs with her (an Orthodox Easter tradition in Greece), by telling him to "hit like a man."

SEE deemed that this went against the Greek Code of Advertising and Communications Practice. The advert also drew complaints on social media.
