ATHEX: Stocks return to action with growth after Easter recess

A Morgan Stanley report that was published on Wednesday and forecast a swift end to the country’s negotiations with its creditors gave a significant push to the local stock market upon its reopening after the Easter and May Day holidays. The report was particularly bullish on Greek bank stocks, whose index gained 3.01 percent on Wednesday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 590.05 points, adding 1.10 percent to last Thursday’s 583.65 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 0.69 percent to end at 162.59 points, while mid-caps grew 3.74 percent.

The day’s climbers included Folli Follie (up 4.83 percent), Viohalco (4.39 percent), National Bank (4.23 percent) and Eurobank (3.78 percent). Coca-Cola HBC declined 2.64 percent.

In total 66 stocks made gains, 26 suffered losses and 10 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 90.1 million euros, up from last Thursday’s 68 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.07 percent to close at 67.02 points.
