Boy aged 3 found tied to a chair in basement in Nemea

A 23-year-old mother of three was charged with exposing a minor to neglect on Sunday after authorities found her 3-year-old son at home alone tied to a chair in the basement in Nemea, central Greece.

The police discovered the boy after neighbors reported hearing crying from the basement. Officers said the boy was dirty while it remained unclear how long he had been in the basement.

The 23-year-old, a Bulgarian national, was found in Nafplio with her two other children, a 2-year-old and an 8-month-old infant.

All three children were taken in by the Hamogelo tou Paidiou (Child’s Smile) charity before being transferred to the capital’s Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital. The father of the children is said to be abroad.
