Probe launched into charges of excess force by riot police

The Greek Police have launched an internal investigation into allegations that members of its riot squad (YAT) used excessive force during an anti-austerity protest outside Parliament on Sunday.

Four YAT officers will be transferred to a different department for the duration of the inquiry, following a decision by the Citizens’ Protection Ministry.

On Tuesday, Sofi Papadoyianni, a member of SYRIZA splinter party Popular Unity, filed suit against the Greek Police and the ministry claiming she was hit on the head by a tear gas canister during the demo.
