Culpability of the center-right
A lot of citizens voted for SYRIZA because they were under the illusion – stoked by the party’s pre-election promises – that the leftist party would reduce taxes on services, products and incomes and also abolish the single property tax commonly known as ENFIA. They were seriously mistaken and today feel like the victims of fraud.
We must not forget, however, that there were politicians and officials in the center-right who fought their own rebellion against the previous coalition between New Democracy and PASOK and, in effect, helped SYRIZA rise to power. They are also responsible for misleading the people who today have to foot the bill for past sins.
These politicians and officials bear a huge responsibility for how things have turned out today and owe the country an apology for their poor political choices.
They played a big role in making a large part of the middle class oblivious to reality at a time that was extremely crucial for Greece’s prospects.
