OPINION

Who’s calling the shots?

Certain measures included in the controversial multi-bill that is going up for a vote in Parliament tomorrow are nothing short of infuriating for the Greek people because they are so obviously designed to address the demands of special interest groups.

The coalition government led by leftist SYRIZA came to power promising that it would crack down on vested interests and cronyism. It is clear now that it has chosen to adopt the exact same tactics it promised to combat in a way that suits it and has found backing from its cronies.

What we are seeing is an old system of patron-client relationships being reproduced in a new form. The real question is to whose benefit it will all be.
