Veria police seek man who tricked elderly out of valuables

Police in Veria, northern Greece, launched a manhunt over the weekend for a 29-year-old who is alleged to have posed as a Public Power Corporation employee to trick elderly people into handing over jewelry.

The suspect, who police have detained in the past for similar offenses, is alleged to have entered the homes of at least two elderly victims by purporting to be a PPC worker and claiming that the victims’ electricity meters needed repair.

He is alleged to have convinced a 78-year-old woman to hand over jewelry worth some 10,000 euros by telling her he would ensure its protection from theft and to have swindled another 500 euros’ worth of jewelry from another resident of Veria, aged 74, with a similar story.
