Eighteen-year-old Miltos Tentoglou recorded a spectacular effort in the long jump at the Papaflessia meeting in Kalamata on Sunday, leaping at 8.19 meters to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

The Greek teenager not only improved his personal best, but he also registered a new national junior record, previously held by Louis Tsatoumas with 7.93 m. since 2001, and the best performance by any junior athlete in the world this year to date. He has also made the Greek squad for the European Championship in Amsterdam this summer.

His jump was right on the favorable windspeed limit (2 meters per second). On May 10 he had reached 7.90 meters.

Another jumper to clinch a ticket to Rio in the same meeting was Haido Alexouli. The long-jumper reached 6.78 percent, her personal best, and will also be on the plane to Brazil this summer.
