Q1 figures point to turnover drop in tourism this year

Tourism enterprises’ financial data in the first three of months of 2016 generate concern, as the turnover of the accommodation and food service sector recorded a decline of 11.7 percent in the first quarter from the same period last year, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Worse still, the turnover of the travel agency sector shrank 12.6 percent year-on-year in Q1.

Meanwhile, the average online price for a double room in Athens posted a drop of 11.9 percent in June from a year earlier, according to data compiled by online travel platform Trivago. It stood at 111 euros per room per night.
