A man stabbed his wife before turning a gun on himself in the early hours of Thursday, on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes, police said.
Police say the couple was arguing when the husband, 31, grabbed a knife and stabbed his 33-year-old wife twice, in front of their child. The man is said to have attacked the victim a second time after an ambulance was called to the house in the village of Damatria.
After police officers arrived at the scene, the man fatally shot himself with a rifle while he was barricaded inside the apartment, shortly after 2.30 a.m.
The woman is being treated in hospital where she was said to be in a stable condition.
