Athens rally to be held earlier; commuters in for headache

TAGS: Protest, Transport, Strike

Commuters in the Greek capital will be in for a tough day on Wednesday as an anti-government protest on central Syntagma Square that had been initially planned for 9 p.m. has been pushed to 6.30 p.m. so as not to coincide with a transport strike.

Turnout at the rally, organized via social media as part of a campaign calling on the government to resign, is expected to be quite large, which will mean that key roads in the city center will be closed to traffic and buses.

The metro and ISAP electric railway will then stop service at 9 p.m. as part of their workers’ ongoing action in protest at government privatization plans.
