Mitsotakis slams government’s reaction to planned rally
Conservative opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has accused the SYRIZA-led administration of adopting double standards in criticizing an anti-government rally planned for Wednesday evening.
The government has indicated that the protest, which has been organized through social media by a movement called “Paraititheite” (Resign), is politically motivated. New Democracy has distanced itself from the protest.
“Democracy is not at risk from citizens who are demonstrating peacefully without being protesters-by-profession. [Democracy] is at risk from those who exploited the frustration of citizens to promote their partisan interests,” Mitsotakis said in Parliament Wednesday.
“Elections will happen much earlier than you expect, and citizens will give their answer,” the ND leader told SYRIZA MPs.
