The Union of Greek Judges and Prosecutors has called on Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos to intervene after it took issue with comments by Deputy Health Minister Pavlos Polakis disparaging the profession.
“The judges and prosecutors of this country… will no longer tolerate such libelous statements,” the union said in an announcement on Friday. “We ask for the president of the republic… to take a position.”
Polakis had said earlier this week that the “judiciary needs some new blood as many judges are dependent on and members of corrupt rings linked to the judiciary.”
“The deputy health minister must either withdraw his comments or denounce any oath-breaking judges he may know of,” the union said in its statement.
