A young boy who went missing on Sunday during a hiking trip with his family in the northern Peloponnese has been found dead, local media reported.
The 9-year-old boy and his family were part of a group hiking a trail in Vouraiko Gorge in Kalavryta in the northern Peloponnese. He reportedly slipped off a small bridge, plunging into a steep ravine with rushing waters below.
Authorities promptly set up a major search operation with special rescue teams, firemen, divers, climbers and a K-9 unit.
The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. and the boy’s body was discovered about six hours later. He was taken by train to a hospital in the western city of Patra, where a postmortem is expected to determine how he died.
