Mitsotakis eyes ‘pact of truth’ to inspire confidence in European project
Reacting to the UK’s EU referendum, which was won by the “Leave” campaign, Greece’s conservative leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday called for a “pact of truth” to inspire the people of Europe and strengthen their confidence in the European project.
“Having secured peace and stability for decades, the European Union now ought to engage in some honest and courageous self-criticism,” said the New Democracy leader, as he called for measures designed to improve the life of European citizens, particularly those most affected by austerity.
“We need a pact of truth between the European Union, the states, and the people that will put ideological dogmatism aside,” Mitsotakis said.
