Attica police collar bogus inspector

A woman was arrested Tuesday for conning pensioners out of cash or valuables by posing as a tax inspector and an employee of the IKA social security fund.

According to a police investigation, the 53-year-old, along with an undisclosed number of accomplices, had targeted several elderly women in various parts of Attica since the beginning of 2016.

The suspects would apparently coax money or jewelry from the victims by telling them that a relative was entitled to tax refunds or benefits but that they needed an advance to process the claim.

Police said the woman has been connected to nine such cases, which made her a profit of 8,600 euros.
