ATHEX: Stocks reverse course after two days of free fall

The Greek bourse recorded a recovery on Tuesday after falling considerably on Friday and Monday, riding the wave of gains recorded in international markets, where investors appeared to be feeling they may have overestimated the impact of the British referendum decision after all.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 538.65 points, up 3.72 percent from Monday’s 519.33 points.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 4.60 percent to end at 1,449.28 points.

Alpha Bank outperformed, advancing 11.26 percent, followed by Piraeus Bank (up 8.98 percent) and Mytilineos (7.65 percent).

In total 72 stocks posted gains, 24 suffered losses and 14 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 86.5 million euros, down from Monday’s 108.4 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange climbed 1.18 percent to close at 66.18 points.
