Hoteliers call for tax drop for Greece to remain competitive as a destination

Tourism professionals are calling for the immediate return of tourism enterprises’ tax rates to competitive levels.

Andreas Andreadis, the head of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), told an event on tourism in Iraklio on Crete that "only that way can the tourism sector further boost state revenues."

He argued that the increase of the main value-added tax rate from 23 to 24 percent, the abolition of VAT discounts for the Aegean islands, and the new levies and taxes imposed on all tourism sectors are causing constant harm to the competitiveness of the country’s tourism product.
