Rhodes tax inspector dives into sea to catch masseuse
A female tax inspector dove into the sea off Rhodes to apprehend a masseuse offering her services to sunbathers on Tsambika beach, according to local reports.
The official was part of a group of inspectors and police officers who went to the beach in search of tax evaders.
According to local newspaper Rodiaki, the masseuse, a Chinese woman, ran into the sea when she saw the officers approaching. She then swam out to a distance of some 10 meters from the beach and refused to return.
The policemen told the tax inspectors they could not make an arrest in the water as this falls under the coast guard’s jurisdiction. Instead, the tax inspector swam out to the masseuse and detained her. The suspect is said to have swam back to shore with no further attempt to resist arrest.
