Public prosecutor asks for pop star to stand trial

Public prosecutor Evsevia Kormikari has asked a council of prosecutors to reject an appeal by Greek-Cypriot pop singer Michalis Hatzigiannis not to stand trial over charges of failing to declare 5 million euros in his tax declarations during the 2010-2011 period.

The singer is also accused of money-laundering because he allegedly transfered the cash, said to be the product of illegal activities, to Cyprus.

A decision on whether the singer would stand trial was expected to be reached by the council within the next few weeks.
