Slain rapper's friend tells court he feared for his life

A friend of Pavlos Fyssas, the rapper slain by a Golden Dawn member in 2013, told judges on Tuesday that he would have also been killed if he had stepped in to help the 34-year-old victim.

Nikos Hatziefstratiou was with Fyssas and other friends when their group was attacked by some 30-40 people – and the rapper fatally stabbed – outside a cafeteria in a Piraeus suburb.

“It was the first time I didn’t help my friend. We both could have been dead now,” he told the  prosecutor at the ongoing trial of the neo-Nazi party’s leadership on charges of running a criminal organization.

“This has tortured me over the past three years and is why I didn’t want to testify,” he said, adding that he suffered a nervous breakdown after the killing and feared he would also be murdered by a GD member.
