The Greek bourse confirmed on Friday it will not be able attract the interest of investors unless something really impressive happens in the domestic economy, as the particularly low trading volume and an erratic benchmark showed.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 571.57 points, adding 0.51 percent to Thursday’s 568.65 points. On a weekly basis it advanced 2.55 percent. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.11 percent to end at 1,543.96 points, but mid-caps declined 0.89 percent.

Alpha Bank dominated the session, growing 4.65 percent and accounting for 33 percent of daily turnover. It also pulled the banks index into the green (up 1.72 percent), while National Bank fell 1.52 percent and Piraeus gave up 0.62 percent. OTE climbed 2.26 percent and Piraeus Port fell 3.39 percent.

In total 48 stocks went up, 34 decreased and 15 closed unchanged.

Turnover came close to a record low, to reach 27.3 million euros, down from Thursday’s 37.6 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange improved 0.12 percent to close at 66.98 points.
