Ring busted for peddling bogus olive oil

The Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) and the police’s financial crime squad have uncovered a ring distributing adulterated olive oil in northern Greece.

Chemical analysis revealed that the oils advertised as extra virgin were in fact artificially colored seed oils of unknown provenance.

After an investigation, authorities named a company in Stavroupoli in Thessaloniki, which allegedly distributed the adulterated oil to retail stores across the region using bogus labels and codes.

The brand names used by the ring were Atlantis, Pithari and Arkadi, available in five and one liter bottles.
