Trial of Lambrakis group chief postponed

The trial of the influential media magnate Stavors Psycharis has been indefinitely postponed after a court on Friday accepted his claim that the indictment he was served was invalid.

A three-member panel of judges threw the indictment out because it did not accurately say whether or not Psycharis – head of the Lambrakis Press Group (DOL), which owns Ta Nea newspaper, among others – broke the law in relation to his source of income declaration (pothen esches).

He was served the indictment after Parliament’s transparency and ethics committee concluded that his declaration was inaccurate and incomplete. The case has been deferred to a prosecutor of first instance.
