Athens airport sees 11 pct rise in passenger traffic

There was a 11 percent increase in passenger traffic at Athens International Airport during July compared to the same month last year, it was announced on Monday.

A total of 2.37 million people passed through the airport, which is located east of Athens. There were increases in both Greek and foreign travelers using the airport, according to the data. The number of Greeks rose by 20 percent, while foreign travelers were up 8 percent.

July’s figures mean that more than 11 million people have used the airport so far this year, which is also a 11 percent increase on the same period in 2015.

There were 107,552 flights in the first seven months of the year.
