More than 1,700 people hired by gov’t ministries

Up to 1,720 hirings have been made by the government so far this year, a robust pace reminiscent of campaign periods.

The hirings, which follow a decision by Alternate Interior Minister Christoforos Vernardakis, involve positions at the ministries of Interior, Health, Labor, Culture and Tourism, and associated agencies.

Recruitments were made via the Supreme Council for Personnel Selection (ASEP) and were published in the Government Gazette on July 11 and 18. Another 2,500 people are to be appointed at the Asylum Service, but these are mostly short-term, low-paid jobs funded by EU programs.

Also, the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) plans to take on 855 people on eight-month contracts to enhance its healthcare services for migrants and refugees.
