Soft drinks market has lost much of its fizz since 2009

The Greek soft drinks market contracted by 32 percent between 2009 and 2015, according to a study carried out by the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) on behalf of the Association of Greek Soft Drink Industries (SEVA).

The report, published on Thursday, indicated that 645 million liters of soft drinks were sold in Greece last year, compared to 952 million in 2009.

However, the local soft drinks firms have been able to make up for this loss by increasing their exports, researchers found.

The sector indirectly provides nearly 50,000 jobs and 381 million euros per year in tax revenues for the state.
