Fire in Argolida being brought under control

A wildfire that started on Thursday in hilly forestland between the towns of Porto Heli and Kranidi in Argolida in the northern Peloponnese was under partial control on Friday, authorities said.

Ermioni Mayor Dimitris Sfyris told the ANA-MPA news agency on Friday that the blaze has not damaged any homes in the popular seaside holiday area or other buildings in the vicinity.

He added, however, that initial estimates suggest over 100 hectares of forest, mainly pine, has been destroyed.

Firefighters remain in the area, bringing the fire under complete control and making sure there are no fresh flare-ups.
