Police have evidence linking Sakkas to head of bank gang

Police forensic experts found evidence to link the recently arrested Costas Sakkas with Giorgos Petrakakos, a bank robber and alleged accomplice of Nikos Maziotis, the leader of the Revolutionary Struggle guerrilla group, when they arrested Petrakakos near Volos, central Greece last year.

Sakkas, an alleged member of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group, and Marios Seisidis, a bank robber, were arrested in Sparta on Thursday. On Monday a magistrate gave them until August 17 to prepare before appearing in court.

Police sources said that Sakkas’s fingerprints were found last year in a car used by Petrakakos. This is considered to be potentially vital evidence as Petrakakos led a group of anarchists and criminals that carried out nine bank robberies between 2013 and 2015. He is also being investigated for possible involvement in terrorist activities.

Counter-terrorism police believe that Sakkas, as well as Seisidis, were involved in this group.
