Robbers of central Athens heist probably experienced, police say

Police are working on the assumption that the four men who carried out an armed heist at a Piraeus Bank branch in Ambelokipi in Athens on Tuesday, using pistols and a hand grenade, have criminal records.

Investigators are reportedly focusing on criminals specializing in armed robbery and are scanning prison records for recently released inmates. The suspects are believed to be aged over 40 and reportedly spoke Greek with a foreign accent.

They took off with 70,000 euros and an undisclosed amount from 22 bank deposit boxes after holding bank employees and customers hostage.
